Learning The Ropes of Social Media for Your Brand

Social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools currently available. It allows you to instantly connecting to millions of potential customers, putting your message in a place that most people check on a daily basis. But social media is also a competitive place, with every other business or brand in your niche trying to get their message seen as well. In order to get the most out of social media, you need to have a plan, and know how to best utilize these tools. If you’re new to social media, here’s how to get started.

Start small

There’s a lot of different social media networks out there, and each one has their own benefits. But rather than trying to learn all of them at once, it’s a better strategy to pick one or two to focus on in the beginning. Once you have a handle on how these social media networks work, you can then expand your reach by exploring other network.

If you’re just starting out, we recommend going with either Facebook or Twitter. These are by far the most popular social media sites, and users typically check them several times throughout the day. Not only do they provide a wide reach, but they come with their own marketing tools to help you reach your customer base. Of course, you are free to choose another social media site to start with, but if you’re unsure of which is best, these two provide an excellent starting point.

Build a profile

No matter what social media site you go with, you’re going to need to set up a profile. Each site has a different way of going about this, but you’ll want to include roughly the same information for all of them. You’ll want your business or brand name front and center, along with links to your website. If you have other social media accounts set up, be sure to include links to those as well. If there is a spot for a company/brand description, be sure to include something that is engaging, well-written, and includes keywords for your niche. Finally, don’t forget to include some high-quality pictures to complete the profile. The more professional your profile looks, the better impression you will make with anyone who is considering following your account.

Share valuable information

Having a decent looking profile isn’t enough to attract customers however. You need to provide value through your social media accounts, and give people a reason to connect with you. If you have a blog, this is a great place to share any articles you’ve written. Also feel free to share other blogs that you come across if you think your audience will gain some value from it. Providing value is an essential aspect for any successful social media campaign, so make this a primary focus.

Promote your products or services

Of course, social media isn’t just about giving away free information. You also want to promote your products or services, in hopes that you will generate some sales. When promoting your products or services, give as much detail as you can, and be sure to include a way to contact you or learn more – a phone number, email address, or website link are all good options. Lastly, don’t go overboard when promoting your products or services. Do it sparingly, mixing it up with valuable posts and other items.

Be consistent

Finally, the last thing you need to know about social media is that it’s important to be consistent. You don’t want to go weeks without interacting on social media. Make social media a regular part of your business, and don’t go too long without posting something. Even if you just take a few minutes per day to respond to customer comments, share an article you found, or post a survey asking for feedback, this will all go a long way. However, if you think you simply won’t have the time necessary to properly run your social media accounts, please feel free to contact us at any time to learn how we can do it for you.

When used correctly, social media can quickly become the most powerful tool in your belt. Getting started isn’t difficult, and you can be up and running in a short amount of time. But if you don’t find success right away, remember to be persistent and keep at it. Social media accounts take time to get going, but once they do, they can really pay off.
